MANAGEMENT OF FORESTS IN KIND 2000

Dr. Eng. Martin Borisov January 2012 G.

General restrictions in Natura forests 2000

1 Prohibition to change the purpose of the land, except in the interests of public health and safety or for other reasons of overriding public interest, including those expressed in extremely favorable environmental consequences.

2 Ban on goat grazing.

3 Ban on extraction of leafy fodder.

4 No fencing, incl. for bases for intensive game breeding.

5 Prohibition of actions related to changing the hydrological regime.

6 Prohibition of any human activity related to changing the habitat and its characteristics.

Forestry requirements for forest management in Natura 2000

1.Tolerance of native plant species;

Transformation of previously established cultures

Plantation cuttings - choosing trees of the future

Renewable felling – consistent with the natural dynamics of the species.

2. Prohibition of afforestation with foreign species and/or origins, as well as afforestation of the natural open spaces in the habitat, with the exception of flood and erosion protection measures;

Use of local species and origins

Use of group schemes

Use of pioneer species

3. In the event of edroploschni natural disturbances, it is recommended not to reforest part of the affected area, but to leave it to the natural succession;

Analysis of potential risks of erosion and opportunities for natural regeneration

Waiting period – 7 years,

Formation of "forewood"

4. Limiting the application of silvicultural systems for low-stemmed and for same age forest management;

Prohibition of bare cuts,

Implementation of long-term regeneration felling,

Application of selective management.

5. Preservation of the tree species and origins characteristic of the habitat during forestry activities;

6. Transformation of forestry activities from edroploschni to small area;

Group-gradual cuts,

Irregular-gradual cuts,

Optional cuttings

7. Keeping dead wood up to 10 m3 per hectare;

MD inventory methodology,

Sufficient quantities

8. Preservation of trees with hollows, single and groups of old trees;

Possible compensations

9. Application of natural technologies in carrying out forestry activities;

Eco-friendly technologies/carrying machines,

Protection of forest infrastructure during removal

Use of biodegradable oils

10. Preserving the integrity of the landscape when planning forest roads and the accompanying forestry activity infrastructure;

Determining the optimal infrastructure density

Conservation of buffer zones

11. Maintaining zones around permanent watercourses with a width of not less than 15 meters, in which logging is not carried out or is carried out with an intensity not greater than 5 % from the plantation stock.

Compensation for imposed restrictions

Austria Natura 2000 district

Islands of old age from min. 10 trees older than turnus – 50 EUR/year., on 10 ha - to 2 OS

Standing old and dead individual trees with d1.3>35cm by 5 EUR/tree/year.

Luxembourg

Leave the min. 7 trees (d1.3>60 cm)/ha – to everyone 5 year. 6.25 EUR/m3 for beech and 10 EUR/m3 for oak

Leave the min. 20m3/ha (d1.3>50 cm) lying and standing MD - one-time subsidy from 20.5 EUR/m3 for beech and 48.25 EUR/m3 for oak. On 1 ha are subsidized to 40 m3.

Germany/Saarland

All beech trees with d1.3 ≥ 80 cm are mapped and marked - their volume is paid according to the value of firewood
